The Court Interpreter Program at the Adminstrative Office of the Courts would like to invite you to a public forum on language access in the courts being held by the Washington State Supreme Court Interpreter Commission. The forum will be held on Friday, May 29th in Yakima, Washington. A flyer is attached to the bar website with some more information.

The Kittitas County Bar Association has important connections to attorneys and the courts, and also represents members of a community heavily affected by language access issues. Courts east of the Cascades and people who use those courts often face issues that are different than the ones faced in Western Washington. For these reasons, it would be great opportunity for us if you or someone from your organization could come and participate in the forum. We’d also like to encourage you spread the word and invite any you know who has as an interest in court interpreters or other court related language access issues.

The Interpreter Commission serves as a policy making and advisory body to Washington courts concerning court interpreters and language assistance in general. The forum will allow the Interpreter Commission to introduce itself to the community and get a first-hand account of some of the important issues regarding language access. The Commission wants to cultivate a dialogue around those issues and extend the conversation to everyone affected by them.

Please feel free to distribute the flyer electronically or physically. We will send an updated flyer in the next few weeks that has some additional information.

Thank you so much for your help and we hope to see you on May 29th in Yakima.
